A "high gravity" outlier can skew or lock the thinking about mechanisms in certain disciplines. It's an extremely rare dynamic, offering little comparative insight. Ideally, it should be discarded, but it's often hard to ignore.
For example, in art and art History, using Van Gogh as a reference might limit art historians' ability to think of better explanations or comparisons, rather than defaulting to "but Van Gogh did it this way."
