Transcript: Better way to think about happiness is living in accord with your values and that is more open and accepting of your history as it echos into the present. More self affirming, self validating and values based. The Greeks had a word for it. They called it eudaemonia. It's not bad definition. That definition is something that will empower human lifes. The definition that we have that gets very hedonistic and emotion-oriented. The problem is that there are many quick and dirty ways to chase that, in ways that being unhelpful to people
Happiness cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Pleasure is, and must remain, a side-effect or by-product, and is destroyed and spoiled to the degree to which it is made a goal in itself
What is good? Everything that heightens the feeling of power in man, the will to power, power itself.
What is bad? Everything that is born of weakness.
