The problem with picturing anything that is different and far is that the mind will cling to its difference and make it spectacular. Probably it’s due to the “grass is greener on the other side” distortion we all hold. When I see them in movies I see this discrepancy clearly. I just watched C’mon C’mon and I cought glimpse of it. Skatepark in NYC looks so interesting, immersive, specific and full of wires connecting to the big and relevant. But the truth is that it’s normal. I like to go to places that seem different than what’s default to me. I once were proud of myself when I was explaining some of my trip to my friend Slawek. He asked how was it? I answered mostly it was normal. Because, pick the most crazy destination, when you get there it is just normal. What’s is exotic for you is normal for the person who is in it and your normal is exotic for them until they come there. When you get there your “grass is greeener on the other side” distortion activates and you are left with all the challenges and relations to things you had previously. I guess Instagram has a lot of that idealizing lens. The exotic, different gets likes because they , and I l often post from far away places - so I just wanted to say that
